One resort in China called the Desert Lotus Hotel went against the grain and opted to place a facility in no man's land.

Most hotels prefer to be located near tourist destinations and landmarks. However, one resort in China called the Desert Lotus Hotel went against the grain and opted to place a facility far away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan areas.

Situated in the middle of Mongolia desert, it sits hundreds of miles away from Beijing.

The hotel offers Mongolian themed performances, desert surfing and camel rides.

The resort is located close to the Chinese city known as Baotou, which is where several mines are, specializing in uncommon metals that are used to create electronics including TV's. Due to the boom in the economy, the destination is becoming more popular among travelers.

The architectural firm behind the resort had some challenges building it, as no cement or water was used for the foundation. The beautiful building sits on a flat metal base which is filled with sand.

Ceilings and walls were also created using composite from the dunes. Umbrella like contraptions were installed on top of the building to give the structure some shade, which helps to cut down on energy costs.
